Police reward good road safety habits

The young people of Wattle Range can win great prizes if “caught” doing the right thing on the roads over the summer holidays.

Wattle Range Council and SAPOL Millicent Police Cluster have joined forces to encourage safe road use through the Rider Safe Draw campaign.

The campaign aims to positively reinforce safe riding behaviours in children through prizes and rewards.

If a child in Wattle Range is “caught” by council staff or police practicing safe road use, like wearing a helmet, following the road rules, and riding safely, they will receive an invitation to enter the prize draw.

Major prizes up for grabs include a bike, scooter, helmets and more.

The Rider Safe Draw will take place at the Colour Fun Run event in Lions Park, Stark Avenue, Millicent on January 18 at 10.30am.

Council’s Community Development manager Caroline Hill said there were positive benefits with the program.

“We want to encourage children in our community to develop safe road use habits from an early age,” she said.

“This campaign provides positive reinforcement through rewards and prizes to help make that happen.”

Officer in Charge of SAPOL Millicent Police Cluster Rick Errington, said road safety was a priority for SAPOL.

“We are pleased to work with the Wattle Range Council and support this initiative which promotes safe behaviours in young road users,” he said.

The Rider Safe Draw is open over the summer school holiday period, to all school-aged children who live, work or study in the Wattle Range Council area.

The Rider Safe Draw campaign provides an opportunity to positively reinforce these behaviours, while also giving children the chance to win fantastic prizes.
