Radio station strengthened

Millicent community radio station 5THE FM continues to grow in strength with the addition of a 10th on-air announcer.

Management committee chairman David Walshaw got behind the microphone in the Railway Terrace studios for the first time recently.

His regular two-hour program will start at 7pm each Sunday and is dubbed “Prog Rock” or progressive rock.

Mr Walshaw said a further three aspiring announcers were midway through the station’s training program.

Mr Walshaw said 5THE FM was making good progress towards obtaining a temporary broadcasting licence through the Australian Communications and Media Authority.

“We submitted a draft of our ACMA temporary broadcasting licence application to the South Australian Community Broadcasting Association,” Mr Walshaw said.

“We have now received the feedback from the SACBA … their comments will be considered at the next 5THE FM management committee.

“Our next step would be to lodge our application with ACMA.”

In the meantime, 5THE FM broadcasts are accessible through a livestream.

Mr Walshaw said there was great interest in the wider community about the community radio station and its broadcasts.

“I have been asked to address the next meeting of the Millicent Rotary Club,” he said.
