Regional health authorities sing praise

The management and staff of Millicent and District Hospital have been praised by the regional health authorities.

The hospital is in receipt of a letter from the Limestone Coast Local Health Network in” recognition of its exceptional performance”.

The letter was tabled at the latest meeting of the health network which, as a coincidence, was held last week at Millicent Hospital.

The agenda stated the letter would be considered in the “matters for noting” section of the meeting and not in the “in camera” section.

The SE Voice has made a verbal and written request to the SA Health media unit for a copy of the letter.

However, the media unit said this request could not be met as the letter contained information of a sensitive nature which had to remain confidential.

This newspaper made a further verbal and written request for non-sensitive extracts of the letter but this was denied by the media unit without explanation.

The SE Voice then asked for a health network statement of a general nature about the Millicent Hospital “exceptional performance” but this request was also turned down.

It is understood the health network letter has yet to be considered by the Millicent Health Advisory Council.

Meanwhile, the health network regional board spent much of Monday of last week at Millicent Hospital.

Board members inspected progress on the upgrade for student nurse accommodation in the former Matron’s Apartment.

This was followed by morning tea in the Andrew Zander Memorial Lounge at the Sheoak Lodge aged care facility.

This was also attended by members of the Millicent Health Advisory Council and a SE Voice representative.

Health network deputy chairperson Lindy Cook then chaired the regional board meeting in the absence of chairperson Grant King.
