The Limestone Coast is well represented in the AFL with plenty of home-grown players starring on the national stage. The SE Voice’s sports journo Will Boston takes a look at how our locals fared in Round 11 including young Bomber Angus Clarke’s AFL debut.
Jeremy Cameron
Jeremy Cameron had another huge game on Thursday night as the Cats came away with the win over the Doggies in Geelong. Jezza had 14 disposals, eight marks, two tackles and six goals in the 14 point victory.
Cameron was once again a force in the forward line as he had a goal assist along with nine score involvements.
The Dart was great with the footy as he had a disposal efficiency of 85.7%.
Cameron is well in the Coleman race as he sits first with 33 goals.
This week Cameron and the Cats will look to continue their great form as they head West to face the Eagles.
Brad Close
Brad Close had a bit of a quiet game on Thursday night in the Cats’ win, finishing with just eight disposals, one mark and three tackles.
He still did well to get points on the board for the team as he had a goal assist along with six score involvements and two score launches.
This week will be good for Close to get back on track as the Cats face the Eagles.
Mason Redman
Mason Redman had a solid game on Friday night against the Tigers in the Dreamtime at the G match.
Red Dog had 15 disposals, six marks and 10 kicks in the win.
In defence Redman was once again great as he had two intercept marks and two rebound 50s.
Redman also used the footy well as he recorded a disposal efficiency of 86.7%.
Tonight Redman and the Bombers will have a tough contest as they face the Lions at the Gabba.
Angus Clarke
It was a big night for Angus Clarke as he had one of the best debut performances of the season, helping the Bombers get the win over the Tigers. Clarke had 16 disposals, eight marks, three tackles and three goals in the win which helped him pick up a coaches vote.
Gussy was pretty accurate in front of goals as he had four shots at goal and had a goal accuracy of 75%.
Clarke was also involved in the sides scoring as he had eight score involvements.
Topping off the dream debut, the Tant teenager was also named as the rising star nominee for round 11.
Tonight Clarke will be up against a tough side in the Lions as he takes them on at the Gabba.
Lachie Neale
Lachie Neale had a huge game in the Lions’ great win over the Hawks at the G.
Neale had 32 disposals, five marks, five tackles and five clearances in the 33 point win.
Neale was impressive with the ball as he had a disposal efficiency of 75% along with five rebound 50s.
Up forward the Kid from Kyby was once again at his best with a goal assist and five score involvements.
Tonight Neale and the Lions will look to build off the win as they host the Bombers.
Toby Pink
It was another solid game for Toby Pink despite the Roos’ tough loss against the Pies at Marvel on Saturday night.
Pink had 13 disposals, seven marks and two tackles in the 45 point loss.
In the marking contest Pink was great as he had three intercept marks and one contest mark along with a season high six spoils.
Pink used the footy well, picking up a disposal efficiency of 92.3%.
This week Pink and the Roos will be able to rest up as they have the bye.
Jordan Dawson
It was a huge day for Jordan Dawson and the Crows as they had a big win over the Eagles at Adelaide Oval.
Dawson had 27 disposals, six marks, nine tackles, a season high eight clearances and two goals in the 66 point win.
Up forward the captain did a bit of everything as he had two goal assists, 10 score involvements and four score launches.
Dawson was physical on the ground as he had 17 contested possessions and six intercept possessions.
This week Dawson and the Crows will head to Sydney as they take on the Swans on Saturday night.
Darcy Fogarty
It was a bit of a quiet game for Darcy Fogarty on Sunday afternoon.
The Fog finished with eight disposals, five marks, two tackles and a goal in the win over the Eagles.
Once again Fogarty did well to help the side in the forward line despite only kicking one goal as he recorded four score involvements.
This week Fogarty will need to be at his best for the Crows as they face the Swans.
Mitch Hinge
Mitch Hinge put together a solid game on Sunday in the Crows win over the Eagles.
Hinge recorded 20 disposals, seven marks, two clearances and 15 kicks.
Like always Hinge was great at moving the footy as he had a disposal efficiency of 75% along with five rebound 50s and 505 metres gained.
This week will be another good challenge for Hinge as the Crows take on the Swans.
Luke Pedlar
Luke Pedlar made his return to AFL footy on Sunday, playing his first senior game since round 7 of last season.
Pedlar looked like his 2023 best on the weekend, recording 11 disposals, four marks, three tackles and two goals in the win.
In the forward line Pedlar was everywhere as he recorded seven score involvements.
This game was a good start for Pedlar and hopefully enough to keep his spot in Adelaide’s best 22 and if he continues to play like this he will be a great contributor for the Crows in the back end of the season and even finals.
