Exciting details are starting to emerge for the inaugural Coonawarra Running Festival, an initiative that will raise money for Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation.
Coonawarra Running Festival Committee member Sandra Wallis said the group chose to support the Breakthrough Foundation as there was a great need for mental health support in the region.
Mrs Wallis said the event would promote fitness and mental health and would be a festival atmosphere at Coonawarra Park with food, music and market stalls.
A number of sponsors have come on board and the official running track will be announced soon along with an event ambassador.
“It’s been amazing, we have been thrilled people are getting behind the cause and we’re happy with how it’s progressing at this stage,” Mrs Wallis said.
Mrs Wallis said keen runners had started training and there had been lots of community interest in the event.
“Lots of people are asking about it, talking about it and looking forward to it,” she said.
With 21km, 10km and 5km distances to run, jog or walk plus minor runs for kids, there will be something for everyone of all ages and abilities.
Mrs Wallis said the group hoped to see both locals and people from outside the region participating and said they were always on the lookout for more sponsors.
Registrations will open when the Coonawarra Running Festival website goes live in the coming weeks.
