Schuller shield secured

Mount Gambier took home the Schuller Shield after a strong performance in Naracoorte recently. Serving up against Naracoorte, Keith and Southern Ports, the Mount Gambier representative team overcame the latter in the final to lift the prestigious prize.

Will Cameron, Toby Stutley, Kobe Cole, Jace Maxwell, Jess Douglas, Jayme Young, Jess Stutley and Ella Jolley all played key roles in the success. Last Thursday the Lakes Junior Tennis Mixed Doubles tournament was finally held at Olympic Park.

It was supposed to take place on Thursday, February 5, but wet weather washed away all hopes of play. However, the weather gods played ball last week and many youngsters hit the courts. Young and Cade Kelly proved to be a dominant duo and won the A Grade prize after defeating Zayne Young and Tess Kenseley.

Giaan and Daniel Ferguson enjoyed each other’s company to claim the B Grade trophy. Runners-up were Caleb Price and Ruby Buckley. C Grade went to Payton Robinson and Kyra Mitchell after they overcame Kobe Maxwell and Kiersten Cole in the final.

The junior tennis action continues next weekend when the region hosts the Bronze Junior Tournament.
