Second semi showdowns await

Minor round premiers Glencoe take on Kalangadoo in the A Grade second semi final at Hatherleigh. Glencoe have a strong goal circle in Jenna Paproth and Chantelle Cocks, both accurate shooters who combine well and move with ease in the circle.

Down the other end of the court Kalangadoo’s Ebony McDiarmid is a strong force within the Pies’ goal circle, supported well by Abbey Duncan, both working hard and shooting with accuracy.

Glencoe’s Sarah Edwards leads the defensive line up for the Murphies, supported from outside the circle by WD Alice Tentye, working any turnovers and loose balls back down the court to their goalies.

Kalangadoo’s young defensive line-up of Georgia Duncan, Lara Munro and Georgia Gentile are a formidable presence on the court, combining well and applying intense pressure in the defensive end, creating turnovers and fighting hard for intercepts.

Both the Murphies and the Pies have had a win in the minor round, however Glencoe will fight hard to come away with the win and head straight through to the grand final in a close fought game.

A Reserve – Kalangadoo v Hatherleigh

Kalangadoo take on Hatherleigh in the A Reserve and has had the upper hand on both occasions this season. Hatherleigh, however, should not be taken lightly. Club stalwarts Melissa Russell (Kalangadoo) and Maddie Redman (Hatherleigh) will have a great tussle in their respective positions. Russell will probably line up in the circle alongside her daughter Shayden, who is an accurate and creative player.

Anthea Patterson is also an option in the Pies attack line.

Sophie Wrightson is a dynamic young player for Kalangadoo and ensures delivery into the circle is creative. 17 & Under player Deni Brown or Lucy Corman may line up in the centre position for the Eagles and they will match up on either Wrightson or Patterson.

Kalangadoo’s defence line in Reanna Wetherall, Shanae Neale and Sam Crute have been a tight defensive unit all season and the Eagles goalies in Abby Wight, Imogen Nowak and Eliza Mewett will need to make the most of every opportunity.

The Pies should come away with the win but it will be under 10 goals.

B Grade – Kalangadoo v Hatherleigh

Kalangadoo take on Hatherleigh in the B Grade second semi final. The Pies have had the upper hand winning the minor round games by 12 and eight. Kalangadoo is led on court by experienced campaigner Jamie Ryan, who works tirelessly in the mid court. She will come up against either Ali McClelland or Karen Bowman who will have their work cut out to limit her opportunities. Gina Gogel and Rhianna May are strong and accurate goalies and the Hatherleigh defenders in Marnie Jolly, Georgia Gray, Sarah Beare and Maddie Nunan will work hard to limit their opportunities. Any of these four could line up in the WD position and will also need to be at their best, as Lucy Williams for the Pies is a creative play maker at WA.

The Hatherleigh attack line has various combinations with either McClelland or Ellie Cook taking on the WA position.

The Eagles goalies in Cook, Eliza Burton and Olivia Slattery have piled on over 1000 goals this season and have worked hard on their accuracy and rebounding when required.

Emma Mules, Emily Mulraney and Bec White will need to work hard to stop the ball getting into the Eagles goal circle as they rarely miss.

The Pies should come away with the win but expect the margin to be closer than in their first two encounters.

B Reserve – Port MacDonnell v Hatherleigh

Port Mac is undefeated in the B Reserve and will go into the second-semi full of confidence. Hatherleigh has had to rethink its line-up due to a season ending knee injury to shooter Grace Chay in round 18.

Ainsley Mann at GS for Port Mac is a focal point for her side and the Hatherleigh defence line will need to work hard to stop the ball getting into her hands.

At the other end of the court Hatherleigh’s Melita Thwaites is a strong and accurate goalie who works hard to get the best position to shoot. Brydie McPherson and Fiona Cram work well in the defensive circle and will ensure the Eagles goalies earn every shot. Paige Cawthorne works hard at centre for the Bay with strong attacking moves and hard defensive work.

She will line up on Keely Jones, a creative centre court player who has added speed to the Eagles attack line.

The battle between veterans Demons Deanne Spencer (WA) and the Eagles Fiona Jackman (WD) will be entertaining.

The margin was eight the last time these two sides met in favour of Port Mac.

This game should go the same way, though Hatherleigh will not make it easy.

17 & Under – Kalangadoo v Mount Burr

The 17 & Under competition has been a tight one this season with Mount Burr gaining second spot on percentage and the three top sides all scoring over 1000 goals. Mount Burr are looking for a three-peat in this grade and will be looking for a win to advance straight to the big dance.

Both of these sides have exceptional talent with many playing regularly in the A or A Reserve. Shayden Russell has stepped up to the plate this season with her height and accuracy causing headaches for any defender she comes up against.

She combines well with Georgia Gentile who has moved into a shooting role this season.

Tilly Gamble, Sara Smith and Macy Burns will need to work hard to stop the ball before it gets into the circle as missed shots will be rare.

Maya Anderson uses her height to her advantage at the defensive end for the Pies and is supported well by Ellie Xanthapoulos, they will need to be at their best to curb Ashlee Dean and Sarah Sigston in goals for the Mozzies.

Abbey Falting and Lily Brook are fast athletic players and the dynamic they bring to each of their sides will be influential on the outcome.

The Pies have gained the points on both occasions this season by 12 and 8, but Lisa Scott will have her young side at their best and will push them until the final whistle.

15 & Under – Port MacDonnell v Kalangadoo

Port MacDonnell will take on Kalangadoo at Hatherleigh this weekend in the 15 & Under second semi final.

Port MacDonnell’s goalies Ivy Wilson and Bailee Lewis have proven to be strong and accurate within the circle, however they will be under intense pressure from Molly Peacock and Zoe Wurst.

Ava Prosperi-Porta will work the ball back down to her goalies Lucy Egan and Kiersten Cole with ease, but Port MacDonnell’s Isla Fulham will provide hands over pressure down the court.

Demons defenders Layla McPherson and Chelsea Fulham will use their netball smarts to pick off intercepts in the Pies attack line, creating confusion and working the ball back down the court with the support of Addison Smith.

Port MacDonnell have come away with the win both times these teams have faced off throughout the season and should secure their spot in the grand final this weekend, however the Magpies will not go down without a fight, keeping the margin small.

13 & Under – Hatherleigh v Kalangadoo

The Eagles and the Pies go head to head this weekend at Hatherleigh in the 13 & Under final.

Kalangadoo’s Zara Cole and Hatherleigh’s Alirah Bowman will have a good tussle through the mid-court with both players fighting to gain possession for their team.

Magpie goalies Ebony Reeves and Matilda Peacock move well in the circle shooting with accuracy, however they will be pressured by Eagles Chloe David and Paige Walters.

Down the other end of the court Kalangadoo’s Tekani Clark and Milla Lennon will apply pressure to Hatherleigh’s Livvi Faulkner and Mollie O’Connor, forcing turnovers and gaining intercepts whenever possible.

Both teams have come away with a win through the minor rounds, however the Eagles will combine well on the day and should take the win.
