Seniors in spotlight

Seniors month activities continued in Millicent on Tuesday with a booked-out cooking demonstration and tasting at the Millicent RSL Hall.

Renowned local chef Melissa Armfield demonstrated how to prepare an easy and nutritious meal of Mexican flavours.

It is the fourth time the Shearer’s Cook proprietor has donated her time in such a fashion.

Ms Armfield made good use of the professional-standard kitchen at the hall and provided a variety of hands-on opportunities for the 30 in attendance.

Seniors Month began a week ago with the traditional opening lunchtime event at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

Mayor Des Noll delivered an upbeat message, there was musical entertainment and a hot lunch was provided by the Shearer’s Cook café.

Members of the Millicent Lions Club and students from Newberry Park Primary School waited on tables, washed the dishes and cheerfully undertook other chores.

Meanwhile, another Seniors Month highlight last week was a well-attended bus trip on Friday to the Leake Brothers Glencoe Woolshed.

This week’s program includes an open day at the Millicent community radio station 5THE FM today and a painting session in Millicent tomorrow.
