Shoppers get chance to bag a bargain

Community members are invited to eat, shop and play local in the Glenelg Shire this Spring and win up to $500.

Glenelg Shire Council’s popular ‘Eat, Shop, Play Local’ competition will take place for the third time from this week for a four-week period to encourage residents to shop local.

The competition offers entrants the chance to win a weekly $500 shopping voucher to the local business of their choosing by spending $20 or more at a local business anywhere in the Glenelg Shire.

Shoppers simply need to email their receipt using the QR code, which will be displayed at the register at local businesses.

Alternatively, entrants can submit their receipts, with contact details written on the back, to any Glenelg Shire Customer Service Centre.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Anita Rank said the competition formed part of council’s initiatives to recognise local traders and encourage local spending.

“Small businesses are the heart of our community – they foster our local economy, employ and upskill our residents, drive growth and innovation, and support not-for-profit projects,” she said.

“To give back to our small business sector, council is encouraging residents to shop and support local this Spring and have the chance to win a shopping voucher at the same time.

“The ‘Eat, Shop, Play Local’ competition is open right across the Shire – so I urge residents to enter from any local business they visit.

“Simply keep your receipt and enter via the QR code or by dropping in your hard copy receipt to your closest Customer Service Centre in Casterton, Heywood or Portland.

“Winners will be announced every Monday via our social media and website.”

The competition opened yesterday and four lucky shoppers will win $500 to spend locally in draws on September 26, October 3, October 10 and October 17.

Entries are limited to one per person/transaction, and community members can re-enter every week.
