Primary Industries Minister Clare Scriven has been rebuked for answering a question in State Parliament by singing her reply.
After being in receipt of a pre-arranged “Dorothy Dixer” question from fellow Labor MLC Reggie Martin, Minister Scriven got to feet and sang an adapted version of the 1960s pop classic “I have Been Everywhere Man” by Lucky Starr.
“Can the minister detail some of the regional towns visited?” asked Mr Martin.
“I am very pleased about the supplementary question,” Minister Scriven replied and then broke into song.
“Almost everywhere, man; Almost everywhere, man.
“Ensuring we’re aware, man; Ensuring we’re aware.
“Unlike those over there, man, we have been almost everywhere.
“I have been to Waikerie, Woodside, Port Pirie, Port Augusta, Jamestown, Moorak, Tantanoola, Cygnet River, Berri, Murray Bridge, Nuri.”
In response, Legislative Council president Terry Stephens got to his feet and instructed Minister Scriven mid-song to resume her seat.
The quirky incident has since received widespread coverage in the capital city media.
