Stableford trophy victory hunted

The third round of the Hudson Plumbing trophy was played in the Stableford format at Mount Gambier Golf Club last week in contrasting conditions.

The first groups off the first and 10th holes encountered icy fairways and greens before the sunny skies turned the course back to normal playing conditions.

In the end Division 2 players took top placings to claim the sponsored prizes.

One of the newer members to the club, Rose Hunt, started well registering a four pointer on the 1st hole before turning at the halfway mark with 18 points.

Hunt added another 19 to increase her total to 37 points including another four pointer on the 15th hole to win the Hudson Plumbing prize.

Lois Harvey who is in good form after winning last Saturday, produced another top round playing to her handicap, was runner up with 36 points.

Division 1 players Carol Davis and Di Norman were close behind.

Davis who played steady golf including a birdie on the 8th hole led the way with 36 points from Norman only one shot further back with 35 points including three consecutive pars on the front nine.

The second shot on the 10th hole in the A, B and C grades was won by Carol Davis, Betty McKechnie and Jane Lamont respectively.

Davis also claimed the pro shot on the 8th hole, while the ball rundown winners were Di O’Donnell, Maureen Sims, Carol Smith, Jan Shanahan, Heather Chapman and Helen Gregory.

Six keen ladies ventured out on Saturday morning to play a Stableford round on a heavy course due to overnight rain.

Winner Kathy Ewer held her game together to finish with 31 points from Helen Gregory with 30.

Ball rundown winners were Sharran Waters, Yvonne Shirley and Lyndal McInerney, all with 29 points.

Five ladies from the Mount Gambier Golf Club will be participating in the SA Ladies Country Golf Week at Murray Bridge and Victor Harbor this week.
