The new Governor of South Australia will attend a commemorative service to mark the centenary of the Robe War Memorial at 11am on December 15.

Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson (pictured) was appointed to the role in September and she will be the principal mourner.

The Robe sub-branch of the RSL has timed the commemoration to occur 100 years to the day since the memorial was unveiled and dedicated.

Also present will be local MPs Tony Pasin and Nick McBride, Robe Mayor Alison Nunan, representatives from Navy, Army and Airforce, local RSL presidents, family members of local WWII servicemen, ex-service men and women, Naracoorte Light Horse Troop members and local community members.

Overlooking Guichen Bay, the memorial was erected by public subscription in 1921 and lists the 60 men who served in the two world wars.

It is a white marble memorial comprising a statue of a soldier standing at ease supported behind the right leg with a tree stump, surmounted on a pedestal and three-tier sur-base and a two-tier granite base and concrete slab.

On the top face of the pedestal is a white marble wreath.

The township of Robe takes its name from the fourth State Governor Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Holt Robe who served from 1845-48.

Karatta House at Robe was the summer residence of the governors in the 1860s and 1870s.
