Students treated to theatre performance

Aprofessional theatre company recently performed for students at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre.

The Slingsby Theatre Company performed ‘The River that Ran Uphill’ which is based on the true story of a tropical cyclone that hit Vanuatu in 2015.

The story explores themes of community and support during hard times.

A group of Millicent High School students were present to see how the play showcased just a few of the ways people can be affected by natural disasters, such as losing your home or your family.

“One of the characters shares the importance of finding courage in times of need to remind us how crucial it can be to come together as a community when we need it most,” said a school spokesperson.

“The performance places the audience right in the centre of the action, in the middle of the storm itself.

“Utilising sound, lighting and shadow puppetry, the performance immerses the audience in the heart of the storm, teaching the all-important message the seemingly impossible can become possible if everybody puts in the effort and works as a community to overcome adversity.”
