Time capsule items sought

Local clubs, organisations, businesses and the general public have submitted “fresh” memorabilia for the Millicent town time capsule.

Last November, there was the ceremonial opening at the Millicent Library of the town time capsule from 1995.

More than 88 items collected from 25 years ago were put on display including a letter from then Millicent Mayor Jim Van Schaik.

The updated time capsule will be ceremonially closed at an afternoon function at the Millicent Library on May 31 and it will be re-opened again in 25 years’ time.

The ceremony will be held in the Bruce Towers History Room and include a talk by freelance planner and former Wattle Range Council chief executive Frank Brennan (pictured).

“I will talk about my Brennan forebears and I am the fifth generation to live in South Australia,” Mr Brennan told The SE Voice.

“They came to SA from Ireland in 1856.”

Mr Brennan worked in local government between 1979 and 2013 and has since chaired the Millicent-based South East Water Conservation and Drainage Board and the SE Natural Resources Management Board.
