Tourist park management taken back

The Wattle Range Council will resume management of the Southern Ocean Tourist Park which is located on Crown land.

It follows the conclusion of Belgravia Leisure’s management tenure.

This company also operates the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre in Mount Gambier.

Wattle Range Council chief executive Ben Gower said the Southern Ocean Tourist Park will continue to operate as normal, with all existing bookings remaining in place.

“Council is committed to a smooth transition, ensuring minimal disruption and will be in direct contact with customers shortly to confirm upcoming reservations,” he said.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Belgravia Leisure, who took over management of the park in 2023 and have successfully run the site over the past two years.

“We appreciate their contributions and wish them all the best for the future.

“This decision marks Wattle Range Council’s renewed commitment to directly managing the park and ensuring its continued success as a destination of choice in our region.

“We are actively building internal capacity to support this transition and ensure high quality service and maintenance for all guests and visitors.

“We look forward to working closely once again with the Beachport community to maintain and enhance the park’s appeal for years to come.”

Council discussions about the park have mostly been held on a confidential basis in recent years

However, the management of the park was raised by Councillor Dale Price during an open portion of the Wattle Range Council December monthly meeting.

He asked Mr Gower about council’s relationship with Belgravia and he replied that it was being managed.

Mr Gower said there had been some feedback but said he wanted to take those discussions “offline” owing to council’s commercial relationship with Belgravia.
