Vets to deliver foot and mouth info

Veterinary clinics at Millicent and Beachport are staging information workshops this week about the current status Foot and Mouth and lumpy skin disease.

The forums follow a recent conference on these animal diseases at Robe attended by three of the partnership’s veterinarians including Dr Sarah McGrath.

“We were updated on the current state of play,” Dr McGrath said.

“We were delighted to have the chief veterinary officer Dr Mary Carr provide us with her valuable insights into all the work, planning and management going on in the background and the roles we will all play.

“It was also great to have the Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Clare Scriven speak to our group of veterinarians and express her gratitude for the role that veterinarians play in our livestock industry and communities.

“We now would like to provide our community with an information evening and what we can all be doing right now to reduce the chances of these diseases entering our country and subsequently our farms.

“We would encourage any stakeholders in the livestock industry, including farmers, stock agents, Agri stores, transport and local council to attend.

“These information sessions will be held in Millicent on Wednesday, August 24 and in Kingston on Thursday, August 25.

“Following these sessions, we will be happy to work with individual businesses in developing biosecurity plans.”
