The Vicis Netball Club has issued an urgent plea for players after struggling to pull together an A grade side for the Mount Gambier Netball Association’s upcoming season.
The MGNA have given the club a deadline of 5pm tomorrow night to get an A Grade team in, with the club unable to nominate any senior teams at all if it is unable to fulfill the A Grade requirement.
The club, which is in its 59th year, has called a meeting for 7pm tonight for past, present and future players, as well as supporters, to address the situation.
The Vicics 2024 Committee has issued an urgent statement “to outline the current struggle that we face as a club today”.
“It has been no secret that Vicis Netball Club have struggled with numbers and putting together an A grade team over the past couple of years and currently find themselves in an unprecedented position,” the committee said.
“As of this afternoon after an extensive meeting with all club presidents and board members, Vicis have found themselves without an exemption for the 2024 season A grade competition.
“Without this exemption it would mean that Vicis Netball Club would not be allowed to register any senior teams into the current season.
“Although the strategic planning committee has put together a plan to help move Vicis Netball Club into the future with some brilliant ideas, Vicis Netball Club look at folding the senior netball competition and unfortunately will not be able to realistically make these goals a reality without a senior competition, we need to have an A grade team submitted into the 2024 season so that the goals of the committee are able to become to fruition.
“The 2024 committee are pleading for people to put their hand up to assist the club to produce an A grade side for this upcoming 2024 season.
“Whether you are a player that has not played in years, a player who has not played before but willing to give it a go or someone that has been selected in a team already. the committee would be immensely grateful for anyone to pop their hand up and step up to play in an A grade team
for the 2024 season.
“Again, we are pleading for assistance to keep Vicis up and running for the 2024 season in the senior competition.”
