Aquarter of a century of service to Mount Gambier’s Centrestage Community Theatre has been recognised.
Chris Davey was honoured with a life membership award at a ceremony at the Wehl Street Theatre.
Mr Davey was the first chairman of the incorporated body who argued the value of the building along with others at a community meeting when TAFE had control of the premises.
He became treasurer of Centrestage when the-then current officer decided to retire some years ago.
Committee chairman Tony Chalinor paid tribute to Mr Davey for his efforts with the group.
“When the chairman of that time retired due to serious health issues Chris took on the role as chairman as well,” Mr Chalinor said.
“When his own health became an issue, he resigned both positions.
“Sometime later after some recovery, he assumed the role as secretary which he has done until the present moment.
“During this long service he was involved with the pivotal position of media relations during our application for a government grant to replace the ageing seats.
“He is a worthy recipient of this recognition by helping to develop Wehl Street Theatre into a first-class intimate community theatre.”
