Walking the walk for mental health

ALimestone Coast woman is walking 1200km to prove that living with mental health is not the end of the line.

Charlotte Northam wants people to know that while living with mental ill health can make the surface a little bumpy, it’s still possible to walk confidently along the road of life.

Born and raised in Kingston Ms Northam has decided to walk the 1200km home from Melbourne to SA spread her message of hope, whilst raising money for critical mental health services.

According to Ms Northam, people living with mental ill health may experience the world a little differently but that does not mean they should be treated differently.

“I am doing this to show it’s okay to talk, even when it’s hard,” she said.

“It’s okay to share your experience, because someone, even if they do not show it, will always be listening.”

Ms Northam is using her long walk to raise money for SANE, the leading national mental health organisation for people with persistent, recurring or complex mental health issues and trauma.

Every dollar raised by Ms Northam will go towards smoothing out the road to recovery for the millions of Australian impacted by complex mental health.

She has chosen to fundraiser for SANE as “their aspect of support for complex mental health is person centred rather than just clinical”.

Ms Northam will be speaking with locals along her journey and raising mental health awareness.
