Elected members warned

Councillors at one South East council have been given some firm mayoral directions about their interaction with each other and the media.

The strongly-worded statement came in the latest monthly report of Naracoorte Lucindale Mayor Patrick Ross.

“I will not tolerate Naracoorte Lucindale Council members crossing the line when speaking with the media,” Mayor Ross said.

“There is no such thing as your personal opinion, you will always be quoted as a councillor.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Ross noted that a recent training session for elected members by an Adelaide law firm had centred around behaviour and meeting procedure.

“We have come a long way and there is still much work to be done on the way we all interact with each other and the need for respect to be demonstrated in our lives,” he said.

“I am incredibly pleased with the relationship the elected embers in general have with the council administration and the outside staff.”
