Local children of all ages had the opportunity to jump, run and dive into the Penola Family Fun Day Mini Olympics hosted by the Riddoch Business and Community Association recently.
Association treasurer Rebecca Trotter said the event came to fruition last year following the cancellation of the annual Penola Show.
“We just wanted to put something on to fill the gap for the kids,” she said.
“Show competitions are a highlight for children every year so we set up an online entry to a few of the familiar show competition items such as photography, best Lego, biscuit decorating, tallest weed, 2D artwork and vegetables.
“Last year we did a scavenger hunt and movie and we decided to put on the event again this year after the Penola Show was cancelled for a second time.
“We try to come up with a theme that is fun and inclusive to all age groups catering from toddlers to early teens.”
The Mini Olympics included fun events like pool noodle javelin, tyre running, sponge throw and blindfolded obstacle course.
The Penola Primary School had a number of different stalls set up from classes and the childrens’ artworks was displayed proudly in the hall.
Ms Trotter thanked her fellow Riddoch Business and Community Association committee members and the Penola Primary School for hosting the occasion this year.
“We alternate between schools so last year it was at Mary MacKillop Memorial School,” she said.
“We would also like to thank all the schools and childcare centre volunteers who helped in putting up stalls with different offerings that helped feed, hydrate and entertain everyone.”
