Grant District Council young people aged 12-25 are being invited to join in council’s art, movie and recreational activities for Youth Week.
Council is hosting a variety of free activities at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex to celebrate SA Youth Week, which kicks off tomorrow and runs to March 24.
Mayor Kylie Boston said the organised activities are a fantastic opportunity for teenagers and young adults to have fun and meet new people.
“Young people are the future of our community, and we want to ensure they feel connected and safe,” she said.
“I encourage youth in our district to get involved by attending events throughout the program and make new connections.
“Celebrating and providing opportunities for our youth does not stop at the end of Youth Week, council will continue to listen to their ideas, work with, and for, them into the future.”
Funded by the Department of Human Services, free activities offered at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex will include a movie screening tomorrow from 6pm-8pm, an acrylic pour workshop on Sunday from 11.30am-12.15pm, artwork creation and lucky door prizes during complex opening hours from tomorrow to March 24.
Council’s Growth and Tourism Manager Rebecca Perkin said staff were excited to offer this year’s Youth Week program and provide the opportunity for young people in the district to activate the youth area in the complex.
“The complex is a hub for community activity and many of our local youth already use the free pool table and gaming consoles available in the complex.
“We hope to continue to increase youth engagement through the Port MacDonnell Community Complex and offer activities for young people to suit a range of interests into the future.”
Throughout Youth Week, bats and cues will be available at the Complex to use on the outdoor ping pong table and indoor pool table.
Upon completion of games and return of equipment, participants will be entered into the draw for a lucky door prize with the raffle to be drawn at the conclusion of Youth Week on March 24.
Bookings for both the movie screening and acrylic pour workshop are essential.
