Beach safety boost

Vehicles on Long Beach at Robe are about to be restricted to 25kph when they are within 50m of pedestrians.

The statewide changes to speed limits on beaches take effect on December 1.

Another important change across all South Australian beaches at the start of summer will be a cap of 40kph on vehicles and well down on the current limit of 100kph.

With Long Beach being one of SA’s premier beaches, the Robe District Council will be publicising the changes.

As part of the State Government’s commitment to the Road Safety Action Plan 2023-25, a review of speed limits on beaches was conducted earlier this year and found clear support from South Australians to reduce the default speed limit.

The review found 80% of all respondents were in favour of a reduction to the default speed limit.
