Care facility praised

Casterton Memorial Hospital’s Glenelg House has received a high rating in new national performance standards for aged care.

In May of 2021, the Aged Care Royal Commission report recommended a new star rating system to support older Australians and their families to compare aged care services and make choices about care that is right for them.

In 2022 Glenelg House, a 30-bed high care facility, was assessed on the four key areas of performance and received an overall star rating of 4/5.

CMH interim chief executive James McInnes applauded the result.

“All aged care homes across Australia receive an overall star rating to indicate their quality of care across the four sub-categories; Resident Experience, Compliance with the Aged Care Quality and Safety standards, staffing and Quality Measures,” Mr McInnes said.

“These star ratings will give us a greater understanding of how we are performing, provide a means for us to highlight the areas in which we do well and also identify any opportunities for continuous improvement.

“We are very pleased to announce that Glenelg House has received its first overall star rating of 4/5, which is a great achievement by all and I would like to say a big thank you to all residents and staff who have contributed to this very pleasing result.”

The 4-star rating is in addition to Glenelg House receiving a first-class quality report card in the recent accreditation audit which means the facility remains fully accredited until December 2025 with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC).

My Aged Care star ratings are available on the My Aged Care website and are updated as new data becomes available each quarter.
