Winemakers and producers invite visitors ‘Back To Our Roots’ for the final week of the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations.
There is every opportunity to taste some exquisite Coonawarra cabernets in various events across the weekend.
On Friday evening taste and compare wines 10 years and older at the Cabernet Decade(nce) Tasting and Dinner Showcase.
Join up to 15 Coonawarra producers as winemakers and vignerons gather to showcase the superior ageing ability of Coonawarra’s signature Cabernet Sauvignon.
The evening will kick off with discovering how the characteristics of cabernet change and develop over the years.
Top off the night at the nearby Ottelia restaurant with a five-course degustation dinner paired with wines to delight.
Start the weekend at Balnaves of Coonawarra with a sparling cabernet breakfast where Alice Cooney will be serving up a selection of mouth-watering breakfast treats.
Head to Majella Wines the ever popular Paella Fiesta and stick around for a chance to talk to winemakers Bruce and Michael while sampling 10-year vintage.
Join local winemakers Lauren Hansen (Penley Estate) and Sue Bell (Bellwether Wines) for the return of Coonawarra’s esteemed Compass of Cabernet Masterclass.
They are joining forces with visiting guest presenters, and self-confessed cabernet tragics, Sydney’s Raja and Ezra Restaurant head sommelier Ella Stening and Langhorne Creek consultant winemaker Paul Hotker.
Come together to expand on global wine knowledge exploring the North, South, East and West of Global Cabernet.

Although there is no shortage of cabernet tastings and good food to be enjoyed all weekend long, the highly sought after combined wineries degustation dinner at Pipers of Penola has sold out.
Those fortunate to have secured a ticket will have the pleasure of an intimate culinary experience hosted by five Coonawarra winemakers.
To avoid disappointment on other activities, bookings to events and cellar doors are highly recommended.
Though week three marks the end of events for the annual celebration, cellar doors will remain open for informal visits.
Kick back and enjoy unlimited travel to wineries between 10.30am and 4.30pm with the Cabernet Celebrations Shuttle Bus.
The pass is $20 per person for unlimited travel throughout the day, with first pick up from the Penola Coonawarra Visitor Information Centre.
Tickets for the Shuttle bus must be purchased online.
Passengers will receive a wristband upon boarding the bus on the allocated day of service.
