The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association held its third championship on Thursday night.
The Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Championship was contested by 42 entries, with many talented bowlers fighting for the championship title.
In the first semi final Shane Finch from Moorak came up against Post-Tel’s Lorraine VanDen Hoogen, with Shane winning 10 shots to 3.
The second semi final saw Simon Davis from Glenburnie beaten by Post-Tel’s Kevin Burn who won by 10-4.
The in-form Shane Finch and Kevin Burn met in the final and with both not having handicaps it promised to be close.
With Finch only playing competitive this year and coming off winning the association pairs a couple of weeks ago, he had the slight upper hand on Burn.
Scores were level at three shots each on the fourth end, meaning it could not be any closer.
Both bowlers were consistently drawing but Finch scored two on the next two ends which put Burn’s title out of reach and gave Finch the 2024 Commercial Club Handicap Mixed Open Singles Champion, winning 7-4.
The consolation semi finals had Serena Bourn (-3) from Glenburnie defeat Wandilo’s Glenn Wright 5-4 and Keisha Pearson (-3) from Post-Tel defeat Emma Freemantle (-1) from Blue Lake Bowlers 4-3.
The consolation final was taken out by Serena Bourn who defeated Keisha Pearson 7-1.
