Free comedy show ‘The Beautiful Bogan’ will shed a light on mental health this Saturday evening at Casadio Park Italian Club.
Adelaide’s Marc Ryan is The Beautiful Bogan, who will use comedy to talk about mental health along with his own personal struggles in a comedic manner.
The event was organised after StandBy Support After Suicide coordinator Tracey Wanganeen received donations from ‘It’s Not Weak to Speak’ truck meets organised by Adam and Julie Smith.
Ms Wanganeen said the event would bring people together and she hoped The Beautiful Bogan’s use of comedy would encourage people to talk about mental health and break down the stigma.
“We need to normalise talking about mental health and suicide, because if we do not talk about it, it becomes that ‘elephant in the room’ and nobody wants to speak about it, so events such as these help break down the stigma,” she said.
A truck convoy for the ‘It’s Not Weak to Speak’ truck meet will line up at the Endeavour Road House at 3:30pm, venture to Casadio Park at 4pm and The Beautiful Bogan will kick off at 7pm.
Local band After 5 will perform, Casadio Park will provide free pizzas and there will be free mental health information available.
The event is supported by the ‘It’s Not Weak to Speak’ crew, Mount Gambier and District Suicide Prevention Network and the Longriders CMC, who have all contributed with donations.
The show is recommended for ages 16 and over due to some crude language and content, however people can bring younger children if they are comfortable.
