The Mount Gambier District Indoor Bowls Association recently hosted its fourth association championship with the Faith Jewellers/David and Jane Peacock Mixed Pairs.
Numbers were slightly down on previous years, with 21 entries competing for the 2024 mixed pairs title.
The husband and wife pair from Commercial Club John Oakley as the skipper and Doreen Oakley as the lead, met the in-form combination of skipper Keisha Pearson and lead Brad Errock from Post-Tel and Wandilo in the first semi-final, with the Oakleys winning eight shots to seven on an extra end.
In the second semi-final the combination from Kongorong of skipper Heather Glynn and lead Kevin Burn from Post-Tel defeated the Glenburnie pair of Simon Davis and Fiona Rochow 11-3.
The Glynn and Oakley teams met in the final, both playing exceptionally well and deserving of making the final.
Scores were tight all the way and tied at two shots a piece after the fourth end.
Heather and Kevin scored one shot on the fifth and sixth end to be two shots in front, going into the last end.
However, John and Doreen had other intentions and were able to score three shots on the last end to snatch victory out of the other team’s hands, giving John and Doreen the win and the championship 5-4.
The consolation semi-finals were contested between Fiona Pearson and Zac Pearson from Post-Tel who defeated Craig Reynolds from Blue Lake Bowlers and Lyn Evans from Saints 6-5 after an extra end.
The second semi final saw the RSL and District team of Lawrie Franklin and Kym Franklin defeat Stephen Von Duve from Post-Tel and Veronica Opie from Saints 8-5.
The Post-Tel team of Fiona and Zac prevailed to beat Lawrie and Kym in the final of the consolation to win 6-3.
