Naracoorte Lucindale Mayor Erika Vickery has welcomed the “star” status accorded to Naracoorte by recent capital city press coverage of a state-wide economic survey.
“It was heartening to read that Naracoorte along with Loxton has become the ‘economic superstar’ of the state of South Australia through the COVID pandemic, recording the highest growth in 2020/2021 compared to last year,” Mayor Vickery said.
“The strong agricultural sector has been credited with boosting the economy according to SGS Economics and Planning by 20.9%.
“Taking a very quick look at businesses within the CBD of Naracoorte there has been quite a few changes with some established businesses expanding and moving or establishing themselves in the CBD with some new businesses starting up.”
In her latest monthly report to council, Mayor Vickery said she had recently attended the official unveiling of the Victoria Fossil Cave Megafauna Audio Visual Experience.
“The numbers of visitors to the Naracoorte Caves site has greatly increased this year,” she said.
“Mike Williams, Executive Director National Parks and Wildlife Service, noted that for every visitor it was estimated that $23 was spent daily in the area adding to the economy of the district.”
