‘One-sided’ contests take to field

The Mount Gambier Baseball League pitched in a weekend of one-sided affairs.

Centrals took on Federals on a cold night Friday that resembled winter.

It was all the black and white boys, a conventional straight forward game with a solid result of 10-0.

Plate umpire Riley Rolph called a close the game after the two-hour mercy rule was brought into effect.

The match featured Koby Chant, Kyall McLean and Ethan Chuck who were all solid contributors again.

Arch-rivals Tigers came up against South on Saturday evening.

It was a game that was on a knife’s edge in the first couple of innings, however there was a welcome addition to the South line-up, with Bruce Morale returning to the top grade.

Tigers welcomed back Garth Ransom from injury and the sides came to play.

Tigers took the lead in the third innings thanks to a Matt Thompson double followed by a Jake Powell solo shot which gave Tigers some breathing room.

South were struggling to find bat on ball effectively with Alex Reppin throwing quick on the hill.

Tigers exploded in the fifth innings bringing eight runs across the plate with several long shots through centre right.

Tigers finished the game off with another four runs in the sixth innings and the scoreboard stood a whopping 15-0 and it was curtains.

Reppin was the stand-out player of the game with three hits and seven strong innings on the hill, only giving up four hits.

Jake England also picked up three hits.
