School help at hand

Stand Like Stone Foundation recently donated $50 vouchers to schools across the Limestone Coast, which help families and students in need of some extra support.

A total of 920 vouchers, worth $46,000, were distributed to 40 local schools by Stand Like Stone chief executive Roger Babolka and Stand Like Stone board members.

The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR) support the Back to School Program with funding and Stand Like Stone sponsor Noel Barr Toyota provided Mr Babolka with a car to deliver the vouchers.

“It’s a good joint effort between ourselves here but also the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, so that’s a great partnership that’s been developed over the years,” Mr Babolka said.

“It’s a good community effort by not only our board but also supporters such as Noel Barr, so we’re very grateful of that as well.”

The vouchers can be used to purchase items to help with schooling and education such as clothing, equipment or to attend school events.

Mr Babolka said the schools were very happy and appreciative to receive the vouchers each year.

“It’s an important part of our year for us, we know it has a great impact on the kids and families that access it,” he said.

“It’s good that we can do it, but it paints a bit of a picture there are some challenges out there.

“It’s obviously showing there’s a need and that’s why we keep doing what we’re doing.”
