Sports radio icon hangs up microphone

Veteran Mount Gambier sports commentator Gorden “Milo” Milosevic broadcast his last radio show on Friday ahead of his retirement

His time in the industry began 32 years ago and had always been with the one AM station on the 963 frequency.

Founded in 1937, it was formerly 5SE and is now known as Triple M.

Mr Milosevic presented the weekly Know-It-All’s Football and Netball Show each Saturday as well as other week-day local sports segments.

He also wrote about football for several seasons for The Border Watch newspaper.

Originally from Tailem Bend, he won the River Murray Football League goalkicking trophy while still in his teens.

This prompted him to try his hand with North Adelaide in the SANFL.

His career in the capital city reached Reserves level and he had he rare opportunity to play in a trial game for the Roosters with triple Magarey Medallist Barrie Robran.

Mr Milosevic moved to Mount Gambier in 1974 following a work transfer with a State Government department.

His successful footy career continued in the Western Border Football League with the North Gambier, Penola and East Gambier clubs.

Over the course of 189 A Grade games in 10 seasons in the Western Border Football League, his career highlight were the back-to-back flags with the Bulldogs in 1982-3.

After his club involvement ended, Mr Milosevic spent a season as the publicity officer with the Mid South East Football League followed by the on-air role with the then 5SE.

Commercial Radio Australia and various sporting organisations have recognised Mr Milosevic with media awards. Gorden “Milo” Milosevic
