Stroke round success

More than 40 women golfers took to the fairways at the Mount Gambier Golf Club course last week to participate in a stroke round.

The round was held in conjunction with the finals of the monthly medal and putting competitions.

The winners of these competitions will be announced at the club’s annual presentation night dinner on November 9 to be held at Sorrentos.

There were good scores produced throughout a fine and calm day, the fairways were running, although pressure to putt well was hampered by sanded greens.

The Division 2 winner with a wonderful score of nine under her handicap of 34, equating to a nett 64 was an elated Jill Johnson, who for the first time played under 100 with 98 off the stick.

Second placing in Division 2 went to life member Gloria Lennon with 103-34-69 nett, four under her handicap.

Gloria registered four under on the front nine and square on the difficult back nine.

The handicapper will be busy adjusting these two ladies’ handicap.

Janina Morrison (87-20-67 nett) continued her purple patch of late and took out first place in Division 1.

Janina’s split was 42/45 off the stick and included nine par and she played six strokes under her handicap.

Helen Gregory (87-20-67 nett) took out the second place honours with 45/43=98 off the stick with a birdie on the par five 17th hole.

Eight balls were handed out to Ros Hunt (nett 71) down to Jan Shanahan (nett 73).

Kate McCormick received three balls for the pro shot on the 8th par three hole.

Winners of the second shot to the 6th flag in A Grade went to Bernie Jennings, B Grade Kathy Ewer and C Grade Lizzie Clements.

The club’s AGM will be held at the clubrooms on October 18 to be followed by a stableford competition commencing with a shotgun start.

Tee blocks will be arranged by captain Jan Shanahan.

The combined Seniors Day will be held on Sunday, October 22.

Last Saturday a good number of ladies played in a stroke round at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Helen Heaver (27 handicap) played four strokes under her handicap to register 69 nett.

Helen’s great score gave her splits of 45 front nine and 51 back nine and will be visited by the handicapper.

Continuing her consistent scoring Leanne Hunt (85-14-71 Nett) took out second placing with splits of 43 front nine and 42 back nine and included eight pars on her scorecard.
