Summer holidays at the Bay

As the busy Summer period is quickly coming to an end, the Port MacDonnell Community Complex has reflected on its successful 2023/2024 school holiday program.

Delivered throughout December 2023 and January 2024, the six-week program attracted 525 locals and visitors to participate in two craft sessions and Storytime facilitated each week.

Crafts varied from Christmas ornaments, name boards, bracelets, succulent gardens and school bag tags.

Storytime was particularly exciting prior to Christmas as a special visit was made by Mrs Claus.

Young children submitted their present requests to Mrs Claus before reading a story, singing, dancing and creating a Christmas themed craft.

Embracing the festive spirit, the Port MacDonnell Community Complex introduced a community Christmas tree for children and adults to make a decoration and place on the shared tree.

Santa’s Letterbox was also situated at the Complex providing an opportunity for children in Port MacDonnell and surrounding areas to write a letter addressed to Santa and receive a letter in return.

The complex’s youth space continued to be a popular hangout location for 531 visitors over the school holiday period.

This area consists of various free to use gaming consoles such as Wii and PlayStation, an 8-Ball Table and free Wi-Fi which is available all year round.

The Port MacDonnell Maritime Museum, located within the complex, was also well utilised and saw multiple large visiting groups from Adelaide, Melbourne and country Victoria discover Port MacDonnell’s history.

Staff at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex have started planning for the next school holiday program to be held in April 2024 and will host multiple Youth Week activities between March 15-24.

Children between the ages of 12 and 25 are invited to attend the free of charge Youth Week events including a movie screening of Space Jam the Movie – A New Legacy on March 15 from 6pm to 8pm; and an acrylic pour workshop on March 17 from 11.30am to 12.30pm

Bookings are required for the upcoming Youth Week activities and can be secured by contacting the Port MacDonnell Community Complex on (08) 8738 3000.
