Top Ambrose honour

The Mount Gambier Golf Club hosted a huge field of 54 players in great golfing weather for a two-person Ambrose.

Top honours for the event, sponsored by Helen Gregory, went to the team of visitor Kerry Pedlar and Janina Morrison on 67.25, winning on a countback from Mary Kentish and Deb Fowler also on 67.25.

The pro shot was taken unsurprisingly by the sponsor Helen Gregory on the eighth hole.

In A Grade pennant competition Mount Gambier lost to Bordertown at Naracoorte – 3/2, while in division one Mount Gambier defeated Naracoorte at Penola 4/0.5

The next Monday pennant will be played on April 8 when the A Grade takes on Lucindale at Penola, with the Division 1 game to be played against Blue Lake at Penola.

Meanwhile, fine and sunny weather brought 22 women golfers to the Mount Gambier Golf Club greens to compete in a stableford competition on Saturday.

Helen Gregory (handicap 16) headed the competition with 36 points, thus playing exactly to her handicap.

Helen had her best nine on the front nine with 21 points and 15 points on the back nine and her scorecard registered five pars for the round.

A relatively newcomer to golf Indya Homes (handicap 34) took out second place with 35 points.

Indya had a really great back nine pencilling in 21 points, adding 14 points for the front nine to tally 35 points.

Eight three pointers were included in her score.

Eight balls were handed out to Di O’Donnell on 34 points down to Jeannette Braun with 28 points.

Jan Shanahan took out the pro shot on the 8th par 3 hole.
