Volunteer service recognised

Decades of voluntary service has recently been recognised by the Millicent Show Society with life membership bestowed on three hard-working members: Ian and Barbara Nitschke and Neville Copping.

Their nominations were unanimously endorsed by the 20 other members of the Millicent Show Society who were present at the annual general meeting.

Each recipient has served the society for at least 20 years and their names will now be added to the dozens of names dating back to the 1870s who are listed on the honour board which hangs on the wall of the show hall.

Mr Copping has been president since 2017 and was re-elected unopposed for a further 12 months.

Mr Nitschke occupied many executive positions over the years including senior vice president and he has now retired from the committee.

Among his passions were the building of the motocross track and running the sheep exhibition section.

His wife will continue her committee membership.

Ms Nitschke oversaw the $90,000 make-over of Vera’s Kitchen at the showgrounds to bring it up to commercial standard.

Earlier in the meeting, Mr Copping reported on a successful 2021 Millicent Show and a positive financial statement was presented.

Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll conducted the elections and all executive and committee positions were filled.
