Young guns geared to go racing

Two local youngsters are gearing up to race this weekend at the NTI Townsville 500, which will be the third round of their respective series.

Kai Allen and Jobe Stewart will take to the Townsville circuit ready to resume their racing careers.

Jobe Stewart will be racing in the Dunlop Super3 Series as he seeks to continue his good form from round two in Perth.

Stewart was awarded racer of the day and finished first place in the second round of Super3 series.

Thanks to the results Stewart will go into the third round in Townsville leading the Super3 driver’s championship.

The recent results have given Stewart a boost of confidence going into the third round.

“I feel pretty confident, the last few rounds I have poled pretty well so far,” he said.

Stewart also has the added bonus going into the race as the Reid Park Circuit is the first track he’ll race that he is familiar with, having raced there last season for the Toyota 86 series.

“This is the first track of the year I have been to before, so I should not have to learn the track during practice sessions which will help a lot,” he said.

Going into the round Stewart will have a lead to defend in the championships as he is currently first on points in the Super3.

Stewart admits it makes him a bit more nervous than usual but is determined to not let it affect him.

“I guess its adds that bit more pressure, but you just try to keep that at the back of your mind and not think about it when you’re on the track,” Stewart said.

Kai Allen will also be racing in the Super2 series and he currently sits fifth in the series after the first two rounds in Newcastle and Perth.

Allen will hope to gain some points to close the gap before the final three rounds of the series in Melbourne, Bathurst and Adelaide.

Allen is looking forward to the upcoming weekend of racing and is excited to be racing again.

“I’m excited to get back in the car this weekend in Townsville,” he said.

“The weather is looking nice and I’m sure the racing is going to be awesome.”

Allen has looked promising so far this series, and is hoping to have a big second half of the racing season.

The NTI Townsville 500 runs from July 7-9, with Stewart and Allen undertaking practice tomorrow, before race one on Saturday and race two on Sunday.
