Championship round tees off

In cool weather conditions with the odd shower of rain 21 women played a stroke monthly medal round for the first qualifying round and Millicent Golf Club grade championships.


The day included the first round Captain’s Trophy, a putting competition and fairway hits and a Fosters Foodland voucher.


Kirsty Bailey won the A Grade competition with nett 71, with Val Willams runner up on 72.


Glenis Skeer proved too good in B Grade, finishing with nett 75 and Bec Shanks was runner up with 76.


The ball winners were Robyn Walters 73, Kathy Webber 76 and Alex Lambert 77 on a countback.


Bailey also won the nine hole competition on the back nine with 31, as well as the putting competition with 28.


The fairway hits in A Grade was won by Robyn Walters with 13 on a countback, with Julie McKenzie winning B Grade with 13 on a countback.


Nearest the pin on the third went to Bronwyn Clarke, Bailey won the 13th, while Skeer won the second shot, fifth with a 32-54 handicap and McKenzie the second shot 17th with a 25-54 handicap.


Bailey topped off her successful day by winning the monthly medal and the Fosters Foodland voucher with nett 71.
