Picnic in the Park

Picnic in the Park

Smiles and sunshine filled Mount Gambier’s Rail Lands as the Limestone Coast’s LGBTIQA+ community and allies came together for a Picnic in the Park to coincide with events in Adelaide and Port Pirie as part of Feast Festival 2021.

Picnic in the Park is held every year in Adelaide to commemorate the end of a month-long celebration of LGBTIQA+ culture and arts.

This year the local community got together to hold an event of their own for those who could not get to Adelaide but wanted to join in on the festivities.

The lead organisation for the LGBTIQA+ community on the Limestone Coast – Limestone Coast Connect was a crucial part of making this event happen.

“It was pleasing to see that we had over 60 people register their interest with approximately 30 attending on the day,” Limestone Coast Connect Public Officer Patrick Smith said.

“We would also like to thank Feast Festival, Woolstore Brewery, Kev’s Food Truck, City of Mount Gambier, Minus18 and AEU SA for their contribution in the first iteration of this event.

“Local dignitaries including Di Ind, Ben Hood, Dolly Amoroso and Katherine Davies came to show their support for the community.

“We are looking forward to the 2022 Picnic in the Park and look forward to a bigger event with greater involvement of the wider Limestone Coast community.”
