VIP to attend anniversary

Kangaroo Inn Area School will welcome two VIP guests at its annual presentation night next month.

Her Excellency the Governor of South Australia the Honourable Frances Adamson will be present on November 23 along with Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll.

It is a number of decades since KIAS had a vice-regal visitor and Her Excellency has a small number of other official engagements during her brief visit to the region.

Her Excellency met a KIAS contingent at Robe in 2021 when she spoke at a ceremony marking the centenary of the town’s war memorial.

KIAS is marking its 60th anniversary in 2023 and it held a celebratory lunch, open day and display of photos and memorabilia on Friday (September 29).

KIAS Principal Annie Matthews said the school felt it was appropriate to invite Her Excellency to the 2023 presentation night given the 60th anniversary was taking place this year.

“The then Governor of South Australia Sir Edric Bastyan took part in the official opening of Kangaroo Inn Area School in 1965,” Ms Matthews said.

“We wrote to Her Excellency back in January and suggested a date and she accepted.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Noll is expected to maintain his usual program of school presentation functions across the Wattle Range Council area.
